Man barricades self in police cruiser armed with a knife

Durham police say a 35-year-old man has been arrested in Oshawa following a domestic-related investigation.

On Saturday, August 23, officers from Central East Division were in the area of King Street West and Stevenson Road South when they located the suspect. According to police, the man armed himself with a knife and barricaded himself in the back of a police cruiser as officers attempted to take him into custody.

Additional units arrived to assist and were able to safely de-escalate the situation. Police say there was no threat to public safety during the incident.

A 35-year-old male from Oshawa was charged and held for a bail hearing. Police are not releasing the accused’s name to protect the identity of the victim.
