Man held after third recent Oshawa case of home violence

A male is in custody for domestic assault in the City of Oshawa which has seen a raft of reported home violence cases in recent days.

The most recent suspect assaulted his spouse and another family member with a weapon at a residence in Oshawa, Durham Police said.

The suspects in two other recent cases face charges of attempted murder (see stories below).

On Monday, May 13 at about 9:30 am, members of East Division responded to an unknown trouble call at a residence in the area of Grandview Street North and Coldstream Drive.

A female was assaulted by her spouse. The female’s brother intervened in the assault and became involved in a physical altercation with the suspect, said a police report.

During the physical altercation between the suspect and male, the suspect used an edged weapon to stab the victim. The victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Toronto area trauma centre. The suspect was taken into custody without incident, police said.

The female did not sustain any physical injuries, it added.

A 35-year-old male from Oshawa was charged with: Assault Cause Bodily Harm, Assault with a Weapon, Assault, Attempt to Choke, Possess Weapon Dangerous to the Public, and Possession of a Prohibited/Restricted Weapon.

He was held for a bail hearing.

The accused’s name has been withheld to protect the identities of the victims, police said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact The East Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1605.
