Man tries and fails to rob convenience store

Durham Police investigators are looking to identify a male suspect after a convenience store was robbed in Newcastle.

On Monday, September 5, at about 2:50 pm, members of East Division were dispatched to the J&J Convenience store on King Avenue in Newcastle. The suspect entered the premise and demanded money. The suspect reached over the counter in an attempt to open the cash register. He fled the store without obtaining any money, said a police statement.

There were no physical injuries to any employees.

The suspect is described as male, 6’ tall, with a medium build. He was wearing black pants, a black hooded sweatshirt, t-shirt, beige shoes and white sunglasses. He was last seen riding a bicycle south on Mill Street.
