Young driver manages stop as truck thunders through red light

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday commended a young driver for her alertness, which helped avoid what could have been a serious, if not a tragic, incident.

An alert young driver was able to stop in time as a transport truck plowed through a red light in Uxbridge, said a police statement.

“Thanks to her quick thinking she scanned the intersection before entering it, [and] was able to avoid a collision. The truck driver faces charges,” it added.

The incident took place on September 8, when a member of DRPS North Division received a complaint about a traffic violation at Toronto Street and Elgin Park Drive at 5:50am.

A young driver was about to make a left turn on a green light, when a transport truck with the full load, ran the red light almost striking the vehicle.
The driver’s quick thinking prevented the devastating collision and reminds us of the importance of being a defensive driver, said the police.

The 29-year old truck driver was charged with careless driving and red light – fail to stop.
