Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) Chief Peter Moreira has been sworn in as president of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police for the 2026–2027 term.
Chief Moreira assumed the role during the OACP’s Annual General Meeting in Niagara on June 1, succeeding Chief Mark Campbell of the Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service, who will continue to serve on the board as past president.
“I’ve dedicated my career to policing and am proud to serve alongside exceptional leaders across Ontario. It is an honour to serve as OACP President, and I’m committed to advancing policing priorities through thoughtful collaboration that strengthens community safety and well-being across our province,” said Chief Moreira.
Chief Moreira has served as DRPS Chief since March 2023. He brings more than 30 years of policing experience, having joined the Toronto Police Service in 1991 and holding senior roles across frontline, investigative, and executive operations.
A strong advocate for collaboration and community partnerships, Chief Moreira is committed to modernizing policing to respond to the evolving needs of growing and diverse communities. His career highlights include leading the Homicide Squad and the Integrated Gun & Gang Task Force, as well as playing a leadership role during the 2022 Emergencies Act response.
Chief Moreira is a Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Policing from Wilfrid Laurier University.
