Motorcylist dies after collision with car at crossing

Durham Police said an Ajax man has died following a motorcycle collision in Ajax Monday evening.

On July 3 at about 8 pm, members of West Division responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle at the intersection of Taunton Road East and Audley Road North.

The motorcycle was travelling eastbound on Taunton Road when a westbound Honda Civic made a left hand turn to travel south and into the path of the motorcycle. According to witnesses, both vehicles had entered the intersection on a green light, said police.

The 51-year-old motorcyclist from Ajax was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Honda Civic remained on scene and cooperated with police.

Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. Roads in the area were closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
