Elderly woman succumbs to violent assault injuries

Durham Police said a 37-year-old male is now facing Second Degree Murder charges after an elderly female succumbed to her injuries in Durham Region’s 8th homicide of 2023.

On June 24 at about 11:20 pm, members of Central West Division attended a residential address on Bermuda Court in Oshawa after receiving reports of an argument. Officers arrived on scene and located a 72-year-old female with significant injuries. On Saturday, July 1, the victim succumbed to her injuries. The victim has been identified as 72-year-old Linda Carter, police said.

The suspect of Oshawa, who bears the same surname as the victim, is now charged with Second Degree Murder. He was held for a bail hearing.

The victim and the suspect are known to one another and there is no concern for public safety, police said.
