Violent assault on elderly female, SIU gets involved

Durham Police yesterday said a 37-year-old male is in custody for a violent assault that occurred Saturday evening where an elderly female suffered life-threatening injuries.

On June 24 at about 11:20 pm, members of Central West Division attended a residential address on Bermuda Court in Oshawa after receiving reports of an argument.

Officers arrived on scene and located a 72-year-old female with significant injuries. She was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre where she remains in life-threatening condition, said a police statement.

A male was on scene when officers arrived and was taken into custody. During the arrest two officers received minor injuries and were treated at a local area hospital.

The Special Investigation Unit has invoked their mandate as a result of injuries incurred to the accused, said the statement.
