There have been regular sightings of bears in human habitat areas in recent times, with the latest reported by Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officers from Beaverton.

“There have been multiple bear sightings in downtown Beaverton in the Township Of Brock,” said an alert tweeted by DRPS North Division.

“Please be aware of your surroundings, and make sure your garbage is properly stowed away,” it said, without providing further details.

Just a couple of days ago, a bear was sighted near a school in Beaverton prompting a ‘Shelter in Place’ protocol.

Bears have been reported as far south as Maple Grove area just north of Highway 2 in Clarington.
