New Homelessness and Addiction hub opens in Oshawa

Following on the heels of Whitby (see  below), a new Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub has been launched in Oshawa.

The Hub, located at 78 Richmond Street West, brings together a collaborative network of clinical, social service and care providers working to deliver services tailored to local needs, including:

  • Primary Care
  • Mental health and addictions services including symptom management and medication titration, trauma-informed interventions and evidence-informed programming
  • Case management for income supports, social services, employment supports
  • Case management for mental health and addictions
  • Mental health and addictions supportive housing
  • Indigenous services

The Ontario government yesterday said it is expanding access to high-quality mental health and addictions care with this launch, which is part of the more than $560 million investment to open 29 HART Hubs – including the ones in Whitby and Oshawa – across the province.

The HART hubs are being launched to protect the safety of families and communities, while improving access to recovery and treatment services for people facing housing instability, mental health and substance use challenges.

Comprehensive Treatment And Recovery Services

HART Hubs connect people to a range of comprehensive treatment and recovery services such as primary care, mental health services, addictions care, social services and employment support.

“We welcome the new HART Hub in Oshawa, where recovery-focused care will connect individuals in need to coordinate, wrap-around mental health and addictions services. We sincerely thank the Province of Ontario for its significant investment and for expanding the HART Hub network into Oshawa in partnership with CMHA Durham,” said Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter.

The Oshawa HART Hub is delivering services, with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Durham serving as the lead agency in collaboration with local partner organizations including the Mission United Program, Mission United Physicians Services, The Back Door Mission, Lakeridge Health Oshawa, Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences, Durham Community Health Clinic, John Howard Society and the Region of Durham.

Todd McCarthy, MPP for Durham said that  “The new Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub here in Oshawa will be a cornerstone of support for those struggling with addiction and mental health challenges and this initiative reflects our commitment to providing meaningful resources and compassionate care to those who need it most. Compassionate care is central to our approach and by focusing on treatment and recovery, this hub will help individuals regain control of their lives while ensuring the community remains supported.”
