The Regional Municipality of Durham yesterday announced that it has installed a new protected left-turn signal at Regional Highway 2 and Courtice Road in the Municipality of Clarington’s community of Courtice.
The new signal was installed on April 30 and is currently in operation.
It is aimed to improve safety for motorists, as the fully-protected left-turn signal allows motorists to safely make eastbound left-hand turns from Durham Regional Highway 2 onto Courtice Road.
New traffic signal indications were implemented specifically for this movement to ensure motorists only turn left when the green left-turn arrow is visible.
Road Construction Alert
The Regional Municipality pointed out that the number of construction projects increases as the weather warms up.
“Road construction work is necessary to keep our roads in good condition. To protect the safety of workers, other drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, all drivers are reminded to slow down and proceed with caution through construction zones or areas where workers are present,” it said.
Drivers are also reminded that speed limits are reduced in construction zones, and fines are doubled when workers are present.
