New Oshawa 50-unit housing project and more…

City of Oshawa has announced it has received an application by Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area for a common elements draft plan of a condominium (file C-O-2022-04) project.

The developer proposes to build a condominium for four stacked townhouse buildings varying between three and three-and-a-half storeys in height and containing a combined total of 50 dwelling units.

They will be built on lands municipally known as 485 and 501 Normandy Street, and 510 and 512 Lomond Street.

The purpose of the application is to implement a common elements draft plan of condominium for four stacked townhouse buildings varying between three (3) and three-and-a-half (3.5) storeys in height and containing a combined total of 50 dwelling units. The land containing each building will be a Parcel of Tied Land. The common elements generally include a private roadway, parking, landscaped open space, waste storage building, an amenity area, sidewalks and a water meter room, said a city statement.

The lands subject to this application are also subject to an Application for Site Plan Approval (File: SPA-2020-23) and an Application for a Standard Draft Plan of Condominium (File: C-O-2022-03).

The city said the application has been determined to be complete.

A notice of public meeting under the Planning Act will be advertised separately at a future date.

City-initiated Amendments

Separately, Oshawa also announced a notice of Planning Act Public Meeting for city-initiated amendments to the Oshawa Official Plan (Files: 12-02-0057 and 12-12-3485), on May 9 at 6:30 pm.

This public meeting is open to the public and will take place in person in the Council Chamber, Oshawa City Hall, 50 Centre Street South.

The proposed amendments to the Oshawa Official Plan are as follows:

  • Amendment 1 – Amend Policy 9.3.4 to delegate to City staff the authority to pass by-laws to remove holding symbols.
  • Amendment 2 – Amend Schedule ‘B’, Road Network – South Half, by deleting the Future Type ‘C’ Arterial Road as shown above.

Ontario Regiment Museum Expansion

A non-statutory public meeting will be held to present and obtain community input on the Ontario Regiment Museum’s expansion proposal at the South Field at the Oshawa Executive Airport.

On November 29, 2019, pursuant to Report DS-19-213, City Council approved the South Field Master Plan. The South Field Master Plan included, among other matters, a recommendation that any expansion proposal formally submitted by the Ontario Regiment Museum be the subject of a public meeting held by the Development Services Committee to elicit public comments and feedback.

The meeting will be held on May 9 at 6:30 pm. It is open to the public and will take place in person in the Council Chamber, Oshawa City Hall, 50 Centre Street South.

Rogers telecom tower

A public meeting will be held regarding a proposal for a new Telecommunication Tower (File: SPA-2022-08) submitted by SpectraSite Inc. on behalf of Rogers Communications Inc. for lands at 1449 Conlin Road East.

The Oshawa Development Services Committee will be considering the above referenced privately initiated proposal for the City-owned lands at the public meeting on May 9 at 6:30 pm. This meeting is open to the public and will take place in person in the Council Chamber, Oshawa City Hall, 50 Centre Street South.

Rogers Communications Inc. proposes to construct a 14 metre (46 ft.) high telecommunication tower with associated equipment. Telecommunication towers are regulated by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada requires telecommunication operators to consult with the City on certain telecommunication tower proposals. Before the City provides any comments to Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada it is important to obtain public input. The purpose of the public meeting is to obtain public comments on this new telecommunication tower proposal.
