No train service August 11-13 weekend, only buses

Starting at 9:30 pm Friday, August 11, and throughout the August 12-13 weekend, there will be no GO train service on the Lakeshore East line due to construction and maintenance work, according to Metrolinx.

It said Durham College Oshawa to Pickering stations will be served by GO bus to Union. Rouge Hill to Danforth stations will be served by TTC.

“We’re performing maintenance on the tracks and signals between Danforth and Rouge Hill GO stations. We are also conducting platform work at Eglinton GO and rehabilitation bridge work over Rouge River. This work can only be done when trains are not running,” Metrolinx explained.

Replacement GO bus service will be available at Durham College Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Pickering GO, and Union Station Bus Terminal. There will be no GO Transit service at Rouge Hill, Guildwood, Eglinton, Scarborough or Danforth GO stations. Instead, take the TTC from these locations.

Metrolinx pointed out that buses do not have the same capacity as trains, and some trips may be busier than others. Depending on your destination, you may wish to use other GO Transit options, including GO Bus Routes 92 or 96 to connect with local transit to continue your commute.

It said regular train service will resume Monday August 14.

Timing changes

Connection times have changed for this weekend too. Metrolinx advised user to check schedules, including connections, before travel as they may need to leave earlier than usual.

Friday, August 11:

Westbound toward Union Station:
• The 9:37 pm Lakeshore East trip is the last scheduled train departure from Durham College Oshawa GO to Union Station.
• From 10:07 pm to end of service, shuttle GO buses will operate. These bus trips will depart earlier than the trains normally do, so plan ahead and check schedules before travel.
Eastbound toward Oshawa:
* The 10:06 pm, 12:06 am and 12:46 am Lakeshore East trips have been cancelled.
* Special trains will depart Union Station at 10:36 pm, 11:16 pm and 11:46 pm. These are the last scheduled trains to Durham College Oshawa GO.
* After train service ends, replacement GO buses will operate from Union Station Bus Terminal. These buses will depart later than the trains normally do, so plan ahead and check schedules before travel.

Saturday-Sunday, August 12-13:
• Regular GO Bus Route 90B will operate as normally scheduled.
• All day Saturday and Sunday, GO buses will serve Durham College Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, and Pickering GO stations, then run express to Union Station Bus Terminal.

“Thank you for your patience as we perform this important work. Through the GO Expansion program, we are building a better service with faster trains, more stations, increased capacity and reduced travel time,” said Metrolinx.
