Gun found after swerving car takes off running red light

Durham Police said yesterday two males have been arrested following a traffic stop that resulted in the seizure of a firearm.

On Saturday, July 29 at about 11:50 pm, members of Central East Division were proactively patrolling the area of Harmony Road South and Bloor Street East in Oshawa when they came across a vehicle swerving in its lane.

The vehicle then ran a red light and accelerated at a high rate of speed, travelling westbound on Highway 401. Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and its two occupants. Further investigation resulted in the seizure of illicit cannabis and a firearm, said a police statement.

An 18-year old of Markham is facing five charges, and another 19-year old of Scarborough is facing three charges. They were both held for bail hearings. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Anyone with new information is asked to contact Cst. Moran-Weekes of Central East Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2067.

Editor’s Note: Durham Post does not name the accused as:
