One reported dead, one hurt in paints factory blast

One person is reported to have died and another injured following a blast at a paints factory in Ajax.

The incident was first reported on Friday, February 18 by the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS).

It said members of the DRPS West Division were assisting Ajax Fire and Emergency Services at a call on MacKenzie Avenue in Ajax. “Ministry of Labour have been notified of the call,” said a brief tweet.

The Ministry of Labour is usually notified in case of death or injury of a worker at a commercial site. A similar notification was issued when a worker died in Pickering during the GO train works on the rehabilitation of the Rouge River Bridge late November.

The Ontario Fire Marshal is also reported to be investigating the Ajax incident.

“Patient pronounced dead in hospital. @ONFireMarshal investigating. One other person was injured,” said a tweet by DR@Media371.

No further details were released by DRPS or Ajax Fire till late last night.
