One teen dead, two critical, four serious after truck roll-over

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said a 15-year-old Sunderland teen died after a pickup truck he was riding in lost control and left the roadway on Sideline Road 18 near Brock Concession Road 9 in the Township of Brock.

On October 24 at about 12:40 am, officers from North Division were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle collision involving a rolled over pickup truck. A grey 2006 Chevrolet Sierra truck was southbound on Sideline Road 18 when it lost control, left the roadway and rolled into a ditch. The vehicle had seven teenaged occupants on board and was driven by a 16-year old female from Sunderland. Four of the occupants were ejected during the rollover, said a police statement.

One of the occupants, a 15-year-old male from Sunderland was fatally injured as a result of the collision.

The remaining six occupants, all ages 15 to 17, were transported to local hospitals and later air-lifted to Toronto based trauma centers. Two are currently listed in critical condition, the other four are now listed in serious but stable condition.

Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch – Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The area of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.

DRPS also reported road closure of Lake Ridge Road S. at the Town of Whitby between Highway 401 and Victoria Street W. for accident investigation.

No further details were released of the Whitby incident.
