The City of Pickering said it has received $51,800 in funding from the Province of Ontario for a new event taking place in Esplanade Park on August 20 and 21 – the Pickering Cultural Fusion Fair.
The grant will enhance the Cultural Fusion Fair through hiring local musical and dance performers who represent different cultural communities, providing hands-on demonstrations of various cultural practices found in Canada, and expanding event infrastructure to increase participation of local cultural and community groups in the event such as Canadian Coptic Foundation, African Canadian Cultural Council Foundation, Durham Tamil Association, Indo-Canadian Cultural Association of Durham Inc., West Indian Dance Centre, Zahra’s School, and Friends Indeed Canada.
“On behalf of the City of Pickering, its members of council, and residents, I sincerely thank the Government of Ontario for supporting meaningful community-building events such as the Cultural Fusion Fair,” said Dave Ryan, Mayor. “Like no other celebration, Pickering’s Cultural Fusion Fair is the embodiment of our community and encourages cultural expression through a vibrant and dynamic array of dance, music, food, and storytelling.”
