Oshawa fire survivors find refuge in community centre

The road shutdown at Ritson and Madawaska has been reopened, according to Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS).

Police was on the scene for a large apartment fire at 1420 Ritson Road South, in Oshawa, as Oshawa Fire Services (OFS) continue to battle the blaze.

All residents have been evacuated, said a police statement.

Oshawa Fire Services said displaced residents can proceeded to South Oshawa Community Centre for temporary shelter. Durham Region Social Services is on site. The Durham Regional Transit bus located on Madawaska Ave provided transportation for those in need.

Ontario Fire Marshal investigators on scene with Oshawa Fire Inspector to start the investigation. Firefighters have completed overhaul and will be clearing shortly, said OFS.

It said upon arrival crews rescued two victims and transported to hospital by paramedics. One victim has been released from hospital, the second victim is in critical but stable condition.
