Police lie in wait and grab payment skimming fraudsters

Durham police said two men are facing charges after installing payment skimming devices to defraud customers at a gas station in Clarington.

On Tuesday, March 3, at about 7:25 am, members of East Division responded to a fraud call at a gas station in the area of Concession Road 8 and Highway 35/115.

An employee inspecting several gas pumps discovered card skimming devices on the payment readers. Employees were able to identify the suspects installing the devices through video footage, police said.

Later that day, the suspects returned to the gas station to retrieve the card skimming devices. Officers located the suspects a short distance away and took them into custody. A search of the suspect vehicle located electronic skimming devices and drugs.

The men, a 43-year old from Pickering and a 36-year old from Toronto, were held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Anyone with cell phone, dash cam, surveillance footage or information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Kane of the Financial Crimes Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5371.
