Police looking for black Mercedes van in arson case

Durham Police investigators continue to look for suspects from an arson investigation in Oshawa at the beginning of this year.

On January 12 at about 8:57 pm, members of Central East Division and Oshawa Fire Services were called to Speak Easy Boxing and Training Academy on Bloor Street West for an active fire. The fire was quickly extinguished and contained by responding firefighters. The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office was advised, and conducted a parallel investigation. It is believed to be an arson based on evidence from the scene. The damage sustained to the building is estimated to be in excess of $100,000, said a police statement.

Investigators believe at least two suspects were at the arson scene and they were associated to a black Mercedes Sprinter van. The van is a 2019-2021 model year and possibly a diesel model.

Anyone with information in relation to this investigation is asked to contact D/C Woolley of the Central East Division Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-579-1520 x 2732.
