Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officers are searching for three suspects following a distraction theft targeting an elderly woman at a Bowmanville grocery store in Clarington.
The incident occurred on Saturday, April 5, at a store near King Street East and Simpson Avenue. According to police, the woman was shopping in the meat aisle when she was approached by a man speaking with a French accent. While she was distracted, a female suspect discreetly removed her wallet from her purse.
The victim’s stolen bank cards were later used to purchase gift cards and make cash withdrawals at a nearby store — all without her knowledge.
Police have identified three suspects in connection with the theft:
- Suspect 1: Male, white, with black hair, a black moustache, and a black goatee. He was wearing a black jacket.
- Suspect 2: Female, white, medium build, wearing a black headband, brown jacket, black shirt and pants, and white shoes.
- Suspect 3: Male, with a brown complexion, black hair, and a black moustache. He was last seen in a black puffer jacket, camouflage pants, and black shoes.
All three are believed to be associated with a black Hyundai Santa Fe.
Anyone with dashcam or surveillance footage from the area, or information that could help identify the suspects, is asked to contact Cst Dargie at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 6759.
