Register to have your Christmas Tree collected in January

Durham Region is conducting a pilot program for Christmas Tree collection in Clarington, Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge in January 2022.

Residents are required to schedule collection of their Christmas trees to be collected in January. This is the same process currently used for scheduling Bulky Goods, Metal Goods, Electronics and Porcelain collection.

Residents are required to register their address by 4 pm on Monday, December 27 by:

  • Using Durham’s online waste collection calendar tool at durham.ca/waste;
  • Using the Durham Region Waste App;
  • Calling 905-697-5300 or 1-800-667-567.

Christmas Tree collection reminders and requirements messaging will include:

  • All tinsel, decorations, wire, lights and stands must be removed.
  • Trees exceeding three metres (10 feet) must be cut in half.
  • Ensure Christmas trees do not freeze or get stuck in snow banks. We do not collect trees buried in snow banks.
  • Christmas trees set out in plastic bags will not be collected.
  • Set-out Christmas trees at the curb by 7 a.m. on the scheduled date.

Registering your address for Christmas tree collection helps the Region’s contractor plan more efficient collection routes by eliminating the need to drive every street. This results in increased efficiencies, cost savings and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
