Removal of old Beaver River bridge to begin soon

The Region of Durham has announced that its contractor has mobilized on site of the closed Beaver River bridge in the Township of Brock.

Works on the taking out the old bridge are scheduled to commence soon. The old bridge has been closed since November 16, 2023.

The region’s contractor, Elirpa Construction and Materials, mobilized to the site on July 8th. The week of July 22nd, the installation of the traffic protection, erosion and sediment control measures, access to the river, and river protection system (floating interlocking barges) will commence. Once in place, the bridge removal will commence, said a region statement.

The region is currently designing temporary and permanent replacements of the Beaver River Bridge, located on Regional Road 15 east of Highway 12, in Beaverton.

After the existing bridge’s removal, the temporary bridge is tentatively scheduled to be opened to traffic in the fall of 2024.

Finally, construction of a new bridge is scheduled to commence in 2026 and be completed in 2027.

All the appropriate approvals for the bridge removal are in place including from:  Transport Canada Navigation Protection; Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO); Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA); and, Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO). The region appreciated the support of all partners for their timely approvals to complete this important project for the community.

Funding for this project is being provided by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario.
