From May 12, Parks Canada has put in place a temporary and partial closure at Rouge Beach near the mouth of the Rouge River to allow for remediation work due to increased shoreline erosion and rising water levels.
These have created unstable terrain and strong currents that pose risks to visitors, said a city statement.
A full beach and Waterfront Trail area closure is expected to follow to allow for the completion of remediation activities.
“Please exercise caution and refrain from swimming as terrain is unstable and the currents may be rapid and dangerous. Visitors are asked to respect all signage and closures to support visitor safety and to prevent any further erosion. Parks Canada appreciates the public’s cooperation and support as we work to mitigate and remediate the effects of erosion and high water levels,” said the statement..
