Rouge moves on boardwalk, beach project

Pickering has announced that the Government of Canada is currently in the planning process for the Beach & Boardwalk Project at the Rouge National Park.

“Pickering is proud to be one of the host municipalities of the Park, and we encourage residents to find out more about the Federal Government’s project,” it said.

Planning and community engagement is currently underway for a new 2.5 km boardwalk trail that will provide an in-park connection from Rouge Beach to the Mast Trail and campground, said Canada Parks.

Parks Canada is partnering with the Waterfront Regeneration Trust and other partners on this important community project, which aims to improve community access to this unique waterfront environment and improving the local ecological integrity through significant inland marsh and aquatic habitat restoration.

Also planned are improvements to the day use areas at each end of the new trail, including a new washroom facility at the start of the Mast Trail.
