Scugog-Uxbridge new animal shelter to open in December

The Township of Uxbridge staff provided reports to Scugog Council on March 23, outlining progress on the new Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter.

The project remains on track for substantial completion in mid- to late-October, with an opening anticipated in December 2026.

The township said the project remains on schedule, on budget, and on track to deliver the intended benefits.

The budget for the project was approved on December 1st, 2025, by both townships at a cost of $3.3 million for a total of $3.8 million including contingency.

The construction at the site commenced late last fall and has progressed nicely, said a statement.

Ongoing winter weather has been challenging at times, but overall, the construction has progressed in accordance with the timing plan for the project and to date, it is not anticipated that there should be delays in completion on the project, it pointed out.

The exterior colours for the roof, cladding, windows, and doors have all been chosen to suit a country setting, said the statement.

It said there is a mix of both metal and natural wood products that will ensure durability for years to come. Interior colours will be selected in the near future and will be presented to the accessibility committee to ensure that they meet requirements.

The 6,457-square-foot facility at 5500 Lakeridge Road is advancing through its construction schedule, with footings poured, ICF walls constructed, and trusses installed.

Exterior colours for the roof, cladding, windows, and doors have been selected.

Interior colour selections will be finalized in the near future and presented to the accessibility committee to ensure compliance with requirements.
