Foot chase ends with arrest of knife-ban 19-year old robber

Durham police yesterday said a man is facing charges after an armed robbery at a gas station in Oshawa.

On Friday, March 20, around 11 pm, members of Central East Division responded to an armed person call at the Petro Canada gas station located at 925 Simcoe Street North.

A male entered the business and made threats with a knife toward employees while demanding cash. The suspect went behind the counter and stole money from the cash register before fleeing the area on foot.

Officers arrived on scene and located the suspect a short distance away. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect was already on conditions not to be in possession of any knives.

The 19-year old man from Oshawa was held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Auto Robbery Crime Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5355.
