Sinkhole closes street, another closed for rail tracks repair

A diverse range of reasons led to the announced closure of a couple of roads, a tunnel and a trail  across Durham.

In Orono, Mill Street is closed according to the Municipality of Clarington.

The section closed is between Main Street and Dickson Street due to a sinkhole (see map below).

People are advised to use alternative local routes.

Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and work crews.

Tunnel Emergency Closure

A notice has reportedly been issued to residents of a locality in Bowmanville advising of the closure of a pedestrian tunnel  along Waverly Road.

“Please be advised that due to heavy rain this morning, there was a break wall collapse upstream at the construction site that flooded and filled in the tunnel, and it now been closed of to pedestrians,” said the notice.

If your child uses this tunnel, please be advised that they will need to find an alternate route home, said the notice adding that the “town will let us know as soon as the situation has been resolved”.

Road Closed For Rail Tracks Repair

 

A stretch of Whites Road (Regional Road 38) in Pickering will be closed from April 15 to April 16, according to the Region of Durham.

The road closure is from Taunton Road (Regional Road 4) to Finch Avenue (Regional Road 27), to allow for the repair of railroad tracks at the Canadian Pacific Kansas City Southern (CPKC) Railway crossing.

Trail Closed Due To Flooding

The City of Oshawa has said that a portion of Harmony Trail is currently closed due to flooding.

The closed section is from Harmony Trail from King Street East to Adelaide Avenue East.

The trail is closed effective immediately until further notice.
