Speeding goes on even after first significant snowfall

Snow or no snow, Durham drivers are so used to the Canadian winter that they take the first significant snowfall of the season (up to 10cm of snow) in their drive.

The usual suspect violations were to the fore yesterday even as roads were slick and wet with melting snow, Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officers reported.

DRPS North Division officers yesterday clocked a driver speeding at 91kmh in a 60kmh zone in Uxbridge (image below).

It is too fast, especially after the first significant snowfall of the year. Please obey the speed limit.

DRPS reminded drivers of some top safety tips for driving in snowy conditions:

  1. Increase following distance.
  2. Always brush off your entire vehicle.
  3. Drive in the lane most recently plowed.
  4. Always give yourself extra time to get to your destination safely.

Meanwhile, DRPS east Division officers said they received complaints for Prestonvale and Meadowglade in Courtice near Dr. GJ Macgillivary Public School (below).

Failing to Stop at Stop Sign $110/3 points, and Disobey Crossing Guard $365/4 points for the errant driver.

“Respect crossing guards for everyone’s safety,” said the police who issued 21 tickets yesterday.
