Step Forward: Whitby Sports Complex’s ice pad takes shape

The Town of Whitby has marked a major step forward in the construction of the Whitby Sports Complex, with the successful pour of concrete for one of the facility’s two arena ice pads.

According to the town, pouring and finishing the concrete slab required a skilled crew to work efficiently and precisely—placing, raking, leveling, and smoothing a volume of concrete equivalent to nearly three school buses.

The arena pad is a key feature of the new complex, which is part of the town’s community strategic plan. Once complete, the Whitby Sports Complex is claimed to offer a state-of-the-art venue for inclusive recreation, sport, and community programming.

On April 16, Mayor Elizabeth Roy and members of Whitby Council toured the construction site to witness the progress firsthand.
