Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) said they have arrested a 24-year-old Quebec woman in connection with an incident last month in which a police officer was struck and dragged while attempting to make an arrest in Oshawa (see below).
On Friday, March 21, at about 1:30 pm, an officer with the DRPS Project Attire Auto Theft Unit identified a suspect in the plaza at 22 Stevenson Road South. The woman was known to police and was reportedly in breach of her release conditions stemming from a previous auto-theft investigation.
As the officer approached to make an arrest, the suspect fled to a white Mercedes-Benz and entered the front passenger seat. The driver of the vehicle began reversing, dragging the officer several metres. The vehicle also struck a parked car before fleeing the scene. The officer sustained minor injuries.
Following further investigation, police confirmed the identity of the suspect, who was later located and arrested on Tuesday, April 22, under a Judge’s Order Warrant while already in custody for unrelated criminal matters.
A 24-year-old female, of Quebec, was charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Det. Brown of Project Attire at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 7827.
Editor’s Note: Durham Post does not name or identify the accused as:
1. Of this time, they are suspect[s] and not convicted by a court, and
2. Sometimes charges are amended or dropped.
