The Region of Durham will be collecting used household batteries for recycling during the week of April 28, on residents’ regular waste collection day.
Residents are asked to place used household batteries in a clear, sealable plastic bag and set the bag on top of a closed Green Bin for collection.
According to the region, up to 92 per cent of battery components can be recovered and recycled. The program is designed to help divert hazardous materials such as mercury and cadmium from landfills and reduce environmental impact.
More information, including a video on how to prepare batteries for collection, is available at durham.ca/Battery.
