Student carries fake gun to school, charged, released

Durham Police said a 16-year-old male is facing charges after they received information that he had brought a firearm to school in Pickering.

On Friday, March 31 at about 12:35 pm, members of West Division were called to St. Mary’s Catholic School in Pickering for a student that was in possession of a firearm. Members quickly arrived on scene and took a male into custody. A replica firearm was recovered in his backpack, said a police statement.

Due to the immediate response of police and the student being quickly placed into custody, a lockdown was not initiated, it added.

A 16-year-old male of Pickering has been charged with Possession of Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace. He was released on an Undertaking.
