Roadwatch tips net drivers who failed school bus stop

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) seems to take safety around schools, students and school buses very seriously.

After receiving RoadWatch complaints about drivers failing to stop for school buses in Clarington, officers from DRPS East Division conducted enforcement in two locations and charged two drivers recently.

“Please ALWAYS obey the stop sign/arm and red flashing lights on a school bus,” said the police.

It pointed out that drivers are required to stop at least 20 metres behind a school bus when its red lights are flashing.

Of the two drivers charged, one failed to stop, and the other stopped less than the required 20 metres, police said.

203 HTA charges

Meanwhile, DRPS Central West Division officers, as part of post-March break ‘In The Zone’ traffic enforcement initiative, issued a combined 203 Highway Traffic Act charges in relation to school zones or community safety zones.
