Impaired at 105 in 40-zone drives head-on with cruiser

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday reported an impaired driver who was caught excessively speeding in Oshawa.

At approximately 4:40 am on Sunday, April 2, members of Central West Division arrested a 28-year-old male, said the police.

It said officers were on proactive patrol in the area of Northern Dancer Drive and Simcoe Street North when they came across a vehicle travelling at 105kmh in a posted 40kmh zone.

Police said the suspect drove head-on with the police cruiser, and then fled when officers attempted to stop the car.

But he did not get far, and was stopped a short distance away, and arrested.

The 28-year old man from Ajax was charged with Stunt Driving, Fail to Stop for Police and Impaired Operation.

His breath samples registered 230mg and 220mg  in 100ml of blood, police said.
