Man eats grocery items, sprays staff with bug poison

Durham Police said a male has been arrested after causing damage and robbing the pharmacy of a grocery store with a can of bug poison.

On Thursday, June 20 at about 7:15 pm, members of Central West Division responded to a commercial robbery at the Metro Grocery Store, located at 70 Thickson Road South in Whitby.

A male, armed with a can of sprayable bug poison, entered the grocery store and began eating food products while causing damage, said a police report.

The suspect broke into the pharmacy area of the store and stole medicine before spraying an employee with the aerosol bug poison and fleeing the area on a bicycle. The suspect was located a short distance away and taken into custody without incident, police said.

The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene.

The suspect, age 33 of no fixed address was charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
