Suspicious package leads to H&S at two Durham schools

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday put two schools near each other in a Hold and Secure (H&S) after locating a suspicious package at one of the schools.

Following an investigation, the package was found to be safe. Police did not say what was in the package.

“The hold and secures have been lifted for both schools. The package has been deemed safe,” said a later police advisory.

Earlier, DRPS said its West Division officers had responded to a call at St. Jude Catholic School in Ajax after a suspicious package had been located.

The school, as well as the nearby Applecroft Public School, had been placed in a hold-and-secure.

Durham District School Board (DDSB) had said students and staff at Applecroft PS are safe and currently in a hold and secure for a community investigation. “We ask everyone to avoid the area as DRPS manage the situation.”
