Tactical support called in for barricaded suspect

Durham Police yesterday said a male is in custody and a female is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in Pickering Sunday evening.

On December 18 at about 5:30 pm, members of West Division responded to the area of Valley Farm Road and Dellbrook Avenue for an unknown trouble incident. Officers arrived on scene and located a female suffering from stab wounds. She was taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre with life-threatening injuries. Her injuries have since been downgraded to serious but non-life threatening, said a police statement.

A male barricaded himself inside the residence and the Tactical Support Unit was called out. Tactical members were able to enter the residence and took the male into custody without incident. The male and female are known to one another; however, this is not a domestic-related incident, it said.

The suspect from Pickering was held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Anyone with new information about this investigation is asked to contact D/Cst Suthers of West Division Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2542.
