Teen charged for robbery in high school washroom

A 15-year-old male was arrested on Monday by Durham Police following a robbery at a high school in Bowmanville.

On December 16 at 12:30 pm, police responded to a Bowmanville residence after a reported robbery had recently occurred at St. Stephen’s Catholic High School on Scugog Street. A male teen reported he made arrangements with a second male to purchase two fashion belts. They went to the school washroom to complete the exchange when the robbery occurred. The suspect threatened the victim before leaving the school with the belts, said a media release.

The victim was not physically harmed, nor were school staff made aware of the incident until police attended the school seeking evidence. Police later located the suspect male, who is not a student at the school, at a Newtonville residence and he was arrested and charged, it added.

He is charged with Robbery and was released on a Promise to Appear with an Officer in Charge Undertaking.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Detective Constable Bycok #3370 of the East Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1605.
