Business staff disarm and restrain stabber till police arrive

Durham Police yesterday said a male is in custody after he stabbed another male at a business in Uxbridge.

On Monday, May 6 at about 5 pm, members of North Division responded to an armed person call at a business in the area of Douglas Road and Toronto Street South.

While inside a restaurant, a male got into an altercation. The suspect male chased another male outside of the restaurant to a nearby business where employees intervened. During the physical struggle to restrain the suspect an employee was stabbed and suffered minor injuries. He was transported to a local area hospital.

Additional staff members were able to disarm and take control of the suspect until police arrived, said a police report.

The suspect suffered minor injuries and was transported to a Toronto-area hospital.

A 26-year-old male from Stouffville is charged with: Assault Cause Bodily Harm, Assault with a Weapon, and Possess Weapon Dangerous to the Public. He is being held for a bail hearing.

The accused’s name is being withheld to protect the victims’ identities, police said.
