Tell-tale smoke leads officers to Gator stolen from PMV

Tell-take smoke in a backyard, led Durham Police officers to locate a John Deere Gator, stolen from Pickering Museum Village (PMV).

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday congratulated North Division for the recovery of the stolen vehicle. “Excellent work by DRPS North Division recovering a stolen John Deere Gator that was stolen from the Pickering Museum Village in March,” said a DRPS tweet.

A statement said on March 16, a John Deere Gator valued at $15,000 was stolen from the Pickering Museum Village at Greenwood Road. There was a video surveillance of the suspects.

On Saturday April 9, officers from North division were on general patrol, when they noticed a cloud of smoke coming from the backyard of a property. The officers, concerned about a fire, stopped at the scene, but noted a Gator, which was similar to the one that had been stolen from some nine kilometers away. They obtained a search warrant for the property and recovered the stolen Gator.
