Be Safe: Thin hard-to-detect layers of ice on roads likely

Environment Canada has warned morning drivers and pedestrians to be careful as overnight freezing drizzle could have produced thin, hard-to-detect layers of ice on roads and open walkways.

In an advisory issued at 9:26 pm last night, the weather agency asked Durham residents to “take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas”.

The freezing drizzle advisory said temperatures will slowly drop to below freezing near Lake Ontario and then freezing drizzle will be possible for all areas.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Freezing drizzle can produce thin, hard-to-detect layers of ice. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance,” said Environment Canada.
