Traffic Tales: Can you gimme a break, asks driver 43kmh over

DRPS Traffic Services were asked: “Can you give me a break?”

The answer: “No. I will not.” Doing 103km in a posted 60kmh is stunt driving and what this driver [top image] got was an impounded motor vehicle for 14 days and a 30-day driving licence suspension.

“Instead of looking for a break, adjust your driving so everyone is safe on the roads,” said police.

Holding babies in your arms is not okay

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) – especially its West Division – had an eventful past few days with unsecured babies, unsafe e-scooter ride, whose fault is it, and ‘being late’ for speeding.

“You cannot, we repeat, cannot drive a vehicle with passengers just holding babies,” said a West Division alert.

“This not is safe, and a recipe for disaster,” it said.

The officer stopped this car (image below) only to find another child not buckled up in the back seat. Charges were laid, police said.

Unsafe eScooter Ride

In another recent alert, West Division DRPS announced an increase in the use of e-scooters as well as an overwhelming number of young riders, including an 11-year old officers stopped to educate (image below).

“Please be reminded that you must wear a helmet if you’re under 18,” they added.

Whose fault is it?

In another alert, West Division reported some confusion over blame.

An officer caught a youth stunt driving on Brock Road and Highway 7. He was clocked at 126 kmh in a 70-zone.

“Father’s motor vehicle was impounded (image below) and driver’s driving licence suspended. When the summons were issued it was my fault,” said the officer. “Not sure how.”

Twice the speed limit

DRPS Traffic Services clocked a driver at twice the speed limit on Ashburn Road (image below).

Stunt driving with another driving licence suspension and motor vehicle impound resulted.

Doing 122 kmh in a posted 60 kmh zone on a well travelled road for cyclists is a disaster in the making. Being late is no excuse. Charges laid for this driver, said the police yesterday.
