Durham Heroes rescue 4 adults + child after boat capsized

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) on Monday, safely rescued four adults and one child, who had been out on the lake fishing when their watercraft back filled with waves forcing the vessel to capsize.

After their vessel capsized, all five individuals were left stranded in the water, said police.

On August 5 at about 7:45 pm, members of North Division responded to a boat in distress call on Lake Simcoe off the shore of Beaverton in Brock township.

The Brock Fire department with the assistance of DRPS were able to locate the victims and safely bring them to shore. All victims were seen by emergency medical personnel and fortunately sustained no injuries, police said.

It reminded that when boating this season, test to ensure your equipment and/or watercraft is functioning properly and you are prepared for any potential emergencies. Always wear a life vest/personal flotation device that is fitted correctly to your body, when getting onto any body of water.

“This can mean the difference between life and death,” emphasized police.

Enjoy your summer on the lake by taking the necessary steps to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you, it added.
