An off-duty police officer was assaulted during the arrest of two youth for property damage in Clarington, according to Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS).
On Friday, December 15 at about 2:40 am, members of East Division responded to an assault call in the area of Mill Street and Millson Hill Drive in Orono, Clarington.
An off-duty police officer from another police service observed two males causing property damage to a vehicle. The officer confronted the males, immediately identifying himself as a police officer and telling them they were under arrest until DRPS arrived on scene, said a DRPS statement.
The two suspects resisted arrest and assaulted the officer, fleeing prior to the arrival of DRPS officers.
With the assistance of the K9 Unit, the two suspects were tracked to a nearby residence where they were located hiding inside a trailer. Both suspects were arrested without incident, police said.
The two 15-year-old males from Clarington were charged and released on undertakings.
