Uxbridge seeks proposals from potential rail operators

The Township of Uxbridge has announced that it will issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for potential rail operators.

A notice said in June, the township issued a Request for Expression of Interest (RFEI) to ascertain interest by train operators in operating a tourism heritage rail operation in Uxbridge.

“Given the sufficient interest received by the RFEI application deadline, coupled with added feedback from rail operators, the township will now issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) to fully assess and evaluate potential rail operators,” said the notice.

While RFPs are being accepted and evaluated, the township plans to make available the train station for short-term rental opportunities, supporting tourism initiatives until a permanent decision is determined for the location, the township said.

On January 8th, Township of Uxbridge Council directed staff to refrain from entering into a new train station lease with York Durham Heritage Railway (YDHR). YDHR vacated the property and returned the station to the township, as per the terms of the agreement.

At that time, the Uxbridge said it will work in consultation with Metrolinx, the Tourism Committee and Downtown Revitalization Committee to determine future uses of this important tourism asset.
