Where did this driver think they were going?

There are morning people and then there are some who are not morning people. It may be safe to assume that the driver of this vehicle who crashed into a tree is, perhaps, not a morning person.

We can speculate over factors such as tiredness, sleepiness, a hangover or even a medical emergency, but the fact reminds us that all drivers need to be alert when behind the wheel.

Though a fire truck and an ambulance were on the scene, Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) did not report any injuries.

However, North Division officers pointed out that this accident occurred just after classes began outside Port Perry High School.

“Please be aware of your surroundings at all times as a pedestrian and as a driver,” they added.

Police officers across Durham, including North Division officers, continue the ‘In The Zone’ back-to-school safety initiative this week following the end of the school March break.

No stopping for school bus

Meanwhile, an East Division officer stopped three vehicles for failing to stop for a school bus.

The bus was stopped on Highway 2 near Holt Road with its stop arm out and lights flashing.

“If there is no physical median, you must STOP in both directions for the stopped bus,” said DRPS.

To not do so gets you a $490 fine and six demerit points, it added.

Results of stunt driving

DRPS Traffic Services said stunt driving charges can complicate life.

Not only is there a 30-day driving licence immediate suspension, but upon conviction you are typically looking at a one-year suspension.

“It’s never worth it – as this driver [below] discovered this [yesterday] morning,” said police.

Please slow down and drive with care, it added.

DRPS also reported late afternoon a road closure in Ajax.

Taunton Road West was closed in both directions from Harwood Avenue North to Middlecote Drive for a collision investigation.

Please avoid the area, police had said.
