The ‘In the Zone’ police traffic initiative after the March school break is revealing some potentially dangerous driving habits across Durham Region.
Yesterday, a driver was reported at more than double the posted speed limit in a school zone in Clarington, said officers from Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS).
A driver was clocked 54kmh over on Courtice Road, near Holyrod Drove by DRPS East Division officers (image below).
They said the speeding was in a 50kmh zone near a Catholic elementary school and just north of the high school.
The motorist’s vehicle was impounded for 14 days, the driving licence was suspended for 30 days, police said.
DRPS Traffic Services praised the East Division officers. “Amazing work by our partners in DRPS East Division – 104 in a 50 community safety zone near a school is absolutely unsafe and selfish.
“Remember: the roadside sanctions are immediate and court will determine additional penalty/suspension,” police said.
Bus Ignore
Meanwhile, DRPS West Division officers were on Pepperwood Gt and Major Oaks Road in the City of Pickering, when they spotted a Valley Farm Public School bus disobey a stop sign and turn left into traffic (top image).
The bus initially stopped and then drove off hence the picture. Emergency lights means pull to the right and stop, police said.
Kiss ‘n Ride
East Division officers said they will be ‘In The Zone’ this week ensuring the safety of children as they head back to school.
Do you know that the KissNRide at schools are intended for children to quickly get out of the vehicle – it is not meant as a parking area, police said.
