Whitby increasing tax rebates for select homeowners

As part of its efforts to keep taxes low, the Town of Whitby is increasing the property tax rebate available to low-income seniors and homeowners with disabilities.

Qualifying Whitby homeowners can now receive a $462 rebate per year, up from the previous $400 rebate that was made available, said a town statement.

The program is income dependent and available for residents who own and occupy their home in Whitby, and meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

  • The Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), or
  • The Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP).

Eligible residents can apply online at whitby.ca/TaxRebatesAndRelief or by calling the Town’s Tax Division at 905.430.4304. The deadline for applications for a 2022 tax reduction is December 31.

Please note that residents must reapply for the program each year. To make this easier, the town mailed all property owners who received the rebate in 2021 new applications in July 2022.
