Winter parking from December 1 in Pickering, Oshawa + more

On-street overnight winter parking restrictions will come into effect in Pickering and Oshawa from Wednesday, December 1.

From December 1st to March 31st parking is prohibited on all streets between 2 am and 5 am, and during any winter control operations in accordance with Traffic & Parking By-law 6604/05. Vehicles parked on the road during snow clearing operations are subject to being ticketed and/or towed (at the owner’s expense), according to the City of Pickering.

It pointed out that it is the resident’s responsibility to clear the snow left by the plow at the end of their driveway (known as a windrow). Residents are required to shovel the snow from the windrow onto their boulevards and not back onto the road. Property owners could be subject to a fine under the Ice and Snow Clearing By-law 6650/06 for placing snow on the road or sidewalk.

Ajax: Do not park overnight between 1 am to 5 am.

Whitby: There is no parking on the street between 2 am and 6 am from November 1 to April 15.

Oshawa

In Oshawa too, winter parking takes effect from December 1 through to April 1.

Community members are reminded that:

  • On street parking is not permitted on Oshawa streets between the hours of 3 am. and 6 am, from December 1 to April 1. Vehicles may be ticketed and/or towed during that time, regardless of snow clearing operations and weather conditions;
  • In addition to the 3 am to 6 am regulations, vehicles parked on Oshawa streets at any time while salting/snow clearing is underway may be ticketed and/or towed; and
  • Occasional Use Parking Permits are not valid during salting/snow clearing operations and all permits previously arranged, are suspended during salting/snow clearing operations.

Clarington parking regulations during snow clearing:

  • You cannot park on any street between the hours of 3 and 5 am year round; and
  • You cannot park on the street during a snow storm at any time of day or night. If you park on the street during a snow event, your vehicle may be towed. Parking on the street during a snow event can slow down snow clearing operations, and in some cases, it may stop snow clearing from taking place on that street.

Scugog: There is no parking on Township of Scugog roads from November 1 to April 15 between 2 am and 6 am.

Vehicles are subject to ticketing and towing. Do not park on the streets as it makes plowing operations difficult and ineffective. There is no parking for longer than three (3) hours on any street throughout the year, unless otherwise posted.

Uxbridge: On-street parking and parking in municipal lots is limited to a maximum of three hours unless otherwise posted. Parking on township streets is not permitted between the hours of 2 am and 7 am, from November 1st to April 1st.
